Embedding an Online Resource as a Label
Resources that are embedded as labels are displayed right on the course page and can be easily accessed by students. For example you can create a Class Resources module at the top of your course, and embed a Symbaloo full of links to useful online resources and videos.
To embed an online resource as a label, start by navigating to the module where you would like to add the label. Then, click the Add button.
A new window will pop up, giving you a choice between Activities and Resources. To add a Label, you will choose Resources.
A window will open with all of the Resource options. Click Label and then click Add.
When the new window opens, decide whether you want the label to be visible to students now, and whether to highlight it, which makes it easy for students to find. Both of these settings can be changed at anytime.
Click the box labeled Hide from Parent Portal if parents do not need access to this label. By default, all resources are visible to parents and you may want to hide some items to keep the parent portal from being cluttered.
Add any text you would like in the text box.
Next you’ll need to add the embed code for your resource in the text box. To do this, visit the site where you have found or created a resource, then locate and copy the embed code. It will usually be found under the Share menu. For example, on Symbaloo, you click the Share button on the top of the page.
When the Share options are visible, look for the embed code for the resource. For example, in Symbaloo, the panel below opens and you will click Embed code.
This will launch a new window with the code that you need to embed the resource. Copy the code by selecting it, right clicking your mouse, and choosing Copy. You can also use CTRL+C on a Windows machine or Command+C on a Mac.
When you return to your course, click on the Show More Buttons on the text box menu bar to reveal all of the available buttons.
Next, click on the Edit HTML button to reveal the code for the text box.
Paste the embed code by right clicking your mouse and choosing Paste. You can also use CTRL+V on a Windows machine or Command+V on a Mac. Then, unclick the Edit HTML button.
You should see your resource in the text box now.
Click the Copy to other Course button if you want to add this label to another course.
There is an Advanced Options button on this page. While there are some nice advanced options, most instructors will not need to utilize these. To learn more, please see our advanced options tutorials.
Click Save and Return to Course.
You should now see your label in your course.
You can click and drag the bar at the top to relocate the label anywhere in your course if needed.
Click on the settings icon on the right side of the page to change the settings, move the label to the right or left, hide it, duplicate, it or delete it.
