It is best to add grade categories to the gradebook prior to grading any work, but you can add these categories in at any time.
To add grade categories, navigate to your Gradebook for the course you wish to add a grade category to.
Then, click on the Settings icon in the top right corner.
This will open a submenu, click on Setup.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Add Category button.
Name the category you wish to add, then click Save Changes at the bottom to go back to your Gradebook Setup.
From this view, you will be able to drag and drop assignments to different grading categories, as well as changing the weight of the category, or the weight of specific assignments.
Next time you navigate to your gradebook, your new category will be present. You can use the dropdown menu to show only this category, or any other category you’ve created.
This new category will also be present any time you create a new assignment or quiz. You will see a drop down menu that allows you to select the appropriate category for each new activity, or edit an old activity’s settings to change the category.
