Throughout Converge, you will often see an Advanced Options menu at the top of the page. The Advanced Options are some lesser known, but useful tools to help you when adding resources and activities, or deciding how things will appear in Converge. This tutorial will explore navigating through the Advanced Options, and highlight some of the most common features.
When you see a Show Advanced Options button in the top right corner anywhere throughout Converge, you can click on it to reveal an Advanced Options Block.
To cycle through each of the options in the block, you can click on the tabs, or you can use the left and right arrows at the bottom of the page.
The Advanced Options Block you see below is present when Adding An Assignment.
The Advanced Options will vary from activity to activity, but we’ve chosen this one to highlight some of the options. Navigation will remain the same, regardless of which options are available.
The General Settings Tab contains the same options that are present before you click Show Advanced. These are the options you will see first when adding items or making changes in Converge.
The Availability Tab allows you to edit the date settings, such as a due date, for Activities that are to be graded.
The Submission Types Tab allows you to restrict the types of files students can submit for an Assignment, as well as file size and number of files.
The Feedback Types Tab allows options for the types of feedback you can give to students on Assignments.
The Submission Settings Tab allows you to restrict students number of attempts, and decide whether students need to hit “Submit” to submit their assignment.
The Group Submission Settings Tab allows you to enable students to submit work as a group for cooperative learning assignments.
The Notifications Tab allows you to decide if students will receive notifications about submissions and late submissions.
The Grade Tab allows you to specify a grade category for activities, choose passing grade and more.
The Common Module Settings Tab allows you to decide if the activity or resource will be visible on your course page, or only visible for certain groups. To learn more about groups, visit our Cohorts/Grouping tutorial.
The Restrict Access Tab allows you to restrict which students are able to access an activity or resource based on several different criterion, such as current grade, or whether or not they have completed a previous activity.
The Activity Completion Tab allows you to choose how the activity or resource will be considered “complete” by a student, and add a required completion date.
The Competencies Tab allows you to associate the activity or resource with any Standards you have added to your course.
Finally, the Preview Tab allows you to review all of the settings that you have in place for the activity or resource.
Don’t forget to hit Save And Return To Course or Save And Display at the bottom of the page after you have finishing adjusting your settings.
Converge users are encouraged to hit Show Advanced whenever it is present throughout Converge and explore the options available to them.
